How Facilities Use InServe’s NDT/NDE Services
Clients contact InServe for NDT/NDE services because the methods we use help accomplish their goals.
- Preventing accidents and associated costs
- Increasing end result reliability and quality
- Maintaining compliance
- Obtaining information needed for preventative maintenance or repairs
- Long-term asset management
Conventional vs. Advanced NDE/NDT
Simply put, most facilities need a full-service inspection firm with experience in both traditional and advanced NDE/NDT techniques. Methods like Visual Inspections and Ultrasonic Thickness Testing can provide useful insight at low cost. However, advanced technologies like Phased Array Flaw Detection (PAUT) and Eddy Current Tube Testing (EC) generate high-value reports and provide insight difficult to obtain any other way. That’s why our technicians are certified in a broad range of techniques.

Visual Inspections, VT
Visual inspection is one of the most common types of non-destructive inspection methods utilized in the industry. Visual Inspection techniques are cost effective as they do not require expensive equipment or set up time. When performing Visual Testing the inspector physically examines the area of interest, however different tools are used to enhance or supplement this inspection such as, borescopes, mirrors, weld & Pit gauges, and illuminators. Code criteria guide the Inspector to determine if the weld examined is acceptable or rejectable. Let our team of specialists recommend the best solution for your situation.
Liquid Penetrant Testing, PT
Liquid penetrant testing (PT) is commonly referred to as dye penetrant testing or inspection. This simple form of non-destructive examination (NDE) is used to examine the integrity of new welds and base metal, it is easy to perform and is commonly used as a cost-effective solution. One of the benefits of PT is that it can be utilized on virtually any type of material. PT can be used to detect surface flaws that may not be detectible by the human eye; however, it is not capable of identifying subsurface defects. The surface area is prepped clean and a dye is applied directly to the area of concern. This dye is drawn into any surface defects or flaws by “capillary action”. A developer is used to give a contrasting background and draw out the dye revealing the surface flaws. There are different types of dyes that can be utilized depending on the situation. Let our team of specialists recommend the best solution for your situation.
Magnetic Particle Testing, MPT, MT
Magnetic particle testing (MT) is used to detect flaws or defects on the surface and slightly subsurface of most ferromagnetic materials. Some of the types of materials that can be tested are iron, cobalt, steel alloys, and nickel. MT uses iron particles coated with dye pigment to aid in the identification of defects. These particles are sprayed on the test component and then the test material is magnetized. When the material is magnetized, any surface flaws or defects will interfere with the magnetic field and reveal the location of the defect. Wet Florescent Magnetic Particle Testing (WFMT) can offer more sensitivity and produce better results in certain circumstances. Let our team of specialists recommend the best solution for your situation.
We’re committed to providing unmatched NDT testing service with our specialized equipment, technology, experience, and personnel. If you don’t your question answered here, feel free to get in touch.
What is NDT/NDE?
NDT is nondestructive testing, a group of techniques that evaluate equipment and materials without causing damage. NDE or nondestructive examination describes the technologies and results.
How long does NDT testing take?
Because NDT testing could mean such a broad range of tests, and every facility is different, there’s not a standard time frame. However, in every situation, our approach seeks to minimize down time and avoid unnecessary shutdowns. We’ll work around your schedule and help plan NDT testing to have the minimum impact on productivity.
What does NDT/NDE Testing cost?
How do I know what NDT/NDE testing methods my facility needs?
We can help you compare nondestructive testing methods and match them to your goals and budget.
Why choose InServe for NDT/NDE testing?
We’ve become a top choice for NDT/NDE testing because of our core values.
Integrity – We do what we say we will do, every single time. Our word matters, and integrity is everything to us.
Quality – We hold ourselves to the highest accountability standards and constantly strive to deliver the most possible value on every project.
Safety – We’re constantly aware that while what we do is highly detailed and technical, lives and livelihoods hang in the balance. Safety is of utmost importance.
Cost varies by the type of test administered, the type of equipment or material to be tested, and several other factors. Contact us to discuss your NDT/NDE testing needs.
